The Civil Aviations Act, 2019 was approved by the government a few years back. This meant Kenyans were in a position to buy and operate drones in the country. Further, if you wish to import a drone, you must have an import permit. The import permit costs $30. The registrations of the drone will also cost you 30$, and yet this is exclusive of the cost of the drone itself.
Apparently, on Monday, 29th March at around 3pm, Rachel Ruto- Deputy President’s Wife, noticed a drone near her Karen Premises. She would later file a complaint to the Police, who would eventually arrest the individual responsible for that.
For most people, flying a drone is as harmless as flying a kite! I mean it’s just an aerial object, nothing further! Little did you know that the drone can actually get your in trouble!
In this case, the 37 Year old British National Jeremy Hind has been arrested by the police. It is yet to be announced just what were his intentions with the drone.
To the new adventurers who would like to own a drone in Kenya, here are some of the rules and regulations you need to remember.
Drone Laws In Kenya
– The first Rule is that a Kenyan Citizen must be 18 Years Old to own and operate a Drone in Kenya.
– Importing and exporting a drone in Kenya can only be allowed by the KCAA (Kenya Civil Aviation Authority)
-The Operator must register their Drone with the authority and be issued a certificate of registration
– Commercial Drones require a pilot to obtain a Remote Aircraft Operators (ROC) from authority.
