1) What are your full names, your age (if you don’t mind), the name of your business and your role in it?

My name is Kelvin Supa, a young Kenyan aged 29yrs.

I run an electronics business called Zuri Electronics. We deal with the sales of TVs, sound systems, PlayStations, smartphones and other kitchen appliances.

2) What’s Your Story? How did you start, what is your motivation, what problem are you solving etc.

Zuri was started back in 2017 as an online venture but fully got its physical operations and location in March 2020 just at the time Covid-19 hit Nairobi from the USA. March for us is us celebrating our 1year anniversary – an year where we have had to think outside the box, surmounted a myriad of challenges, learnt while on it and still made it through.

Owing to our initial online operations, we have over the years had to establish trust with our customers by ensuring we meet our end of bargain on quality and also surpassing their demand on great after sales and customer service.

What we are selling are not new products in the market neither are we the only ones doing it but we have created our own business brand by understanding the market, consumer behaviors and through proper research and data established ourselves as the best go to Electronics shop not only in Nairobi but the whole country.

Our customer service and after sale services have thus kept us at the top of this game.

3) What motivates you to do what you do everyday? Who has been your biggest motivation to do what you do?

Happy and satisfied customers are my major motivation.

Customer satisfaction is one thing that will make you wake up everyday in anticipation to give a new customer a better experience than what you did for another the day before. A happy customer will keep your business alive more than a random marketing activation activity will. Look at this simple arithmetic, if 1 happy customer secures you 10 referral customers every day or week, now imagine the power of 100, or 1000 happy customers. With customer satisfaction at a high, you might eventually not need a marketing department at all.

4) What unseen opportunities do you see that may result in making your business a huge success?

There is so much potential for business growth on the web today since Generation Z who are our biggest have never known a day without internet. I also still feel that social media for business is underrated, I wish all businesses could understand its power and leverage it the more.

For us as Zuri Electronics, with growth comes many things, I believe the icing of our cake would be an e-commerce platform running a countrywide agency model that delivers the same value we deliver at our head office. However, we are also keeping ourselves abreast with everything that is happening in the world and will pick the best solution for our growth as time goes by.

5) What is your parting shot for those wishing to join the entrepreneurship train?

Entrepreneurship is great with time!

Immediately you start a business, you will not get those immediate results that people promise you they get in their line of business and that is where most people joining this train never want to hear.

I will use the analogy of the sowing of a mustard seed to explain my own journey. You have to plant a very small seed today, yet after giving it time, it blossoms into a big unshakeable tree.

Robert Collier said, “Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day-in and day-out.”

Businesses take time to grow and most of the successful entrepreneurs you see around have really struggled to become what they are today. If you decide to get into this arena be ready for a fight. You must be prepared for heartbreaks, loss of friends, sleepless nights and days of hunger that no one prepares you for. However, if you are persistent, endeavor to create value for your customers, overtime -you shall reap of the fruits of your hard labor.
