What do you know about your kidney? How often do you take care of them? Kidneys are two bean sharped organs in our bodies which cleanse the blood and transform the waste to urine.
Kidney Cyst is a pouch with fluid that forms in or on the kidney. If many cysts develop they interfere with the function of the kidney.
The different kinds of kidney cyst include;
- Simple kidney cyst: It can be a round pouch with smooth, thin- wall tissue or a pouch with fluid. It can be one or many within the kidney but the simple kidney cysts are the most common and they most don’t cause harm
- Polycystic kidney disease (PKD): PKD runs in the families and these are many cysts within one kidney and they make the kidney larger and damages the tissue.Polycystic kidney disease can cause cyst to form in your liver or other body parts and PKD can lead to kidney failure.
- Acquired cystic kidney disease (ACKD) is another condition that does not run in the family like PKD but it causes cyst to grow in your kidney.
Some of the symptoms of kidney cysts include;
- Blood in urine
- High fever and chills
- Pain in your side, back or upper abdomen
They don’t have a specific cause but men are likely to get them than women. PKD is caused by abnormal changes in genes, called mutation
Kidney cyst diagonis
A blood or urine test should be done to see how the kidneys are working. Other imaging tests like ultra sound, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) scan can be performed.
Kidney cyst treatment
If there are no symptoms it doesn’t need to be treated. However, medical doctors will advise you on what to do. In some cases, a procedure called cyst sclerotherapy can be done which involves a doctor puncturing the cyst with a long needle inserted through the skin, using ultrasound for guidance.
PKD can be life threatening but doctors treat and God heals
