A good workplace relationship is defined by existing interpersonal relationships between any organization and individuals. Human resources Managers have the arduous task of ensuring that employees have the right attitude to help the organization achieve the set goals.
Currently there is so much uncertainty at the workplace owing to Covid 19, hence most organizations are adopting new methods to ensure that existing relationships are not severed.
Many organizations have had to downsize and rethink the workspace to conform to social distancing.
Let’s have a look at ways of building relationships that are maintained over a long period of time.
This is great for newly approved managers to get to know the team assigned to them. They act as a road map for the direction the department is to take. This enables the HR to learn the names of employees first and foremost.
The rapport established here sets the tone of the kind of relationship the employees will have with the new boss.
To begin with, in any organization, the head of any department must ensure any new employee is integrated to their role and the work culture so as to ensure timely delivery of work assigned.
In any workplace there are contagious employees who are full of positive energy and are willing to assist those who seem to lag behind in their department, or who seem to be overwhelmed by their new roles.
The use of apps, like Zoom and Google meet have been a welcome relief for meetings that facilitate follow up of tasks assigned to various departments. Additionally if employees can communicate effectively through proper channels it will trigger more productivity, boost morale, enhance mutual respect.
By and large our new normal may experience technical hitches, it is best to have an IT department that is conversant with all new apps and upgrade all the employees to the current systems to facilitate better communication.
Time and tides wait for no man, still if one does not prioritize how best to manage the time they have then it may lead to delayed output. Have time for feedback, plan for the week, allow regular sit downs to address any pressing issues.
Avoid partiality and let wisdom guide you as you handle the employees with respect, it earns your trust with them.
Appreciate individual efforts and team efforts alike. Conduct appraisals periodically and always give credit where it is due.
Asses the employees’ skill set with the job assigned to ensure deadlines are met and always urge them to nurture their skills and experience.
Complement contributions of outstanding employees/employee especially-after successful projects.
If you want to go fast go alone, if you want to go further go with others, professional conduct is a crucial factor for any organization. Establish a set of work ethic and ensure it is adhered to. Any breach of conduct that is totally disheartening, should be dealt with firmly.
Retention of clients and customers
Customer retention is wholly dependent on the relationship that is built and maintained within an organization. The tone used while addressing any client is crucial as it can be the key to the next sale.
It is extremely rewarding to have any organization recognized for great customer experience, on the other hand internal customers need to feel valued as well.
These are just a few pointers to ensure that good work place relationships are enforced and can periodically be up graded or overhauled to benefit the organization.
