The wind howls, the trees sway
The loose house-top sheets clatter and clang,
The open window shuts with a bang,
(Excerpt from the poem a sudden storm)
March 26th 2021, the eagerly awaited presidential address to the Nation swayed our thoughts, clattered our minds and made our hearts shut with a bang. With the pandemic in its 3rd wave and sadness hitting very close to home with some of our close relatives, friends, colleagues and acquaintances being swept by death, fears of lockdown and increase in hours indoors, cries of regret filled the air.
Truth be told, we hoped it wouldn’t be the case but all these happened.
Restaurants shut down, Bars and night clubs have closed shop, eateries got a Hail Mary and 5 counties on lockdown.
Where do we go from here?
What happens to them that commute from county to county for work?
Both public and private corporations directed to have employees work from home, will it be sustainable? Low income earning employees being laid of because their services are considered non-essential!!!Seems like we are re-living March 2020 all over again.
In these unprecedented times in our country (and the world at large),we need to go back to the song of our freedom fighters, the national anthem, the cry to the Almighty and say;
Oh God of all creation, Bless this our Land and Nation
This, however, will not be a cry of justice but one of help and remembrance. This is a cry for Mercy and a Fall from Grace, a cry for guidance and direction for the leadership to find a balance between Economic melt-down and Safety.
Its time for business models to change from physical to virtual, it is time for delivery companies to operate a notch higher and concentrate not just on sales but hygiene and customer safety in delivery. In this Dark cloud, there is a silver lining of numerous opportunities in business especially online trading.
This pandemic came to challenge our thinking, trample on our rigidity, cause us to invest more in our capacity as humans by making us think outside the box, so we should rise stronger, wiser and greater than we have ever been because this is our season of Beyond normal.
