If you’ve been keen on the news lately, you are probably one of the many individuals across the world searching in the internet whether a vaccine for coronavirus have been invented. Good news is Kenya has not been left behind in the search for coronavirus vaccine.
According to Citizen TV, the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), East Africa’s leading medical research facility, is testing the efficacy of a herbal medicine known as Zedupek. Developed in 2015 by Kenyan researchers it has been effective in treating Herpes.
Dr. Frestus Tolo says that he and his team of researchers are still at a very early stage to determine if Zedupek is the missing puzzle piece needed and whether it would work. Despite concerns from WHO on standardization matters, this have not deterred researchers from getting a local cure to the deadly disease. Madagascar president Andry Rajoelina said that WHO has signed a deal to formulate herbal coronavirus “cure”.
Looking at the number of coronavirus in Madagascar, it gives me little hope that the herbal tea President Andry Rajoelina urges his citizens to drink could be the real deal. Maybe. Madagascar has so far recorded 1443 coronavirus cases, 13 deaths and 498 recoveries while at Kenya has recorded 4374 confirmed cases, 119 fatalities and 1550 recoveries. I don’t want to give people false hope but maybe there’s hope in herbs.
Zedupex has shown anti-viral potential against Herpes ,however, Dr. Frestus Tolo states that Herpes is a DNA virus while coronavirus is an RNA virus but once the process of aquiring ethical clearance to experiment the virus within a period of one month they will have known whether the product has anti-coronavirus activities. Good News atleast, Right?
China, the origin of the virus currently has five potential vaccines at human trial stage.
In the meantime, as researchers and scientists across the world are busy burning midnight-oil and casting tents in search for a cure as well as a vaccine which may take 12-18months to be developed.
We on the other end have a responsibility to protect ourselves and our families. Remember more than 315,000 have died from this pandemic and 4.8 million people around the world have been infected. This virus is not a joke for those of you who still are doubting!! Until a cure is discovered, stay safe or stay home!!
