- What are your full names, your age (if you don’t mind), the name of your business and your role in it?
My name is John Mwangi Kariuki. Founder and Director at Sycroft Computer Systems.
- What’s Your Story? How did you start, what is your motivation, what problem are you solving etc.
My journey to entrepreneurship started immediately after formal employment.
Having worked in the IT sector as a professional for a few years and having first hand experience on how technology was a critical piece in the running of a business, I decided to venture out and start my own enterprise.
It is while working in the formal sector that I saw a gap that existed between SMEs and implementation of technology to run their business, spur growth and improve communication with the clients.
With that in mind, I saw the need to engage various SMEs and help in introducing technology in their day to day running of the businesses.
While not entirely limited to SMEs, Sycroft Computer Systems was formed to come up with customized solutions for all to maximize and achieve their potential using technology.
We solve a myriad of challenges for SMEs, key among them being improving communication between the company and clients by harnessing various tools like social media.
We have also tapped into bulk emails and blogs solutions, client conversion platforms tailor making them to ensure smooth running of office operations.
With automation, securing company data is of also of paramount importance in the current world and we offer solutions for that as we also grant you platforms to allow ease of payments among others.
- What motivates you to do what you do everyday?
Seeing an organization grow is my key motivation. Success of a client business is always a great motivator.
Coming up with great ideas to aid in the growth of an organization and applying them and seeing their impact is really moving.
- What unseen opportunities do you see that may result in making your business a huge success?
One of the problems I face is mostly rigidity in accepting new technology, some people might think that implementation of new automated systems spells death to physical employees so convincing them that technology works well in conjunction with physical employees is a huge challenge. For this particular challenge, we have enhance our training department and given it enough capacity to demystify tech for all the customers we come across.
The costs of hosting services like cloud services sometimes proves to be prohibitive but we have also found out affordable ways to deal with it hence giving us an edge as a tech company.
- What is your parting shot for those wishing to join the entrepreneurship train?
I would urge organisations especially SMEs to leverage the power of technology in-order to harness the full potential of their recourses.
To budding entrepreneurs, do not be afraid of the unknown. See every challenge as an opportunity for growth. In an ever-changing world creativity is key. Coming up with creative new ideas and implementing them will ensure your business stays a step ahead of the competition ………………….. and most of all have a fighting spirit and never give up.
